* The only thing meaningful missing from last Friday’s swearing-in ceremonies was a presentation by James Tokley, Tampa’s poet laureate. He’s a civic fixture and natural resource. But he was literally present, and he did write a poem, “The Open Door,” for the occasion…  

* Here’s a tip to Bay News 9, which devoted considerable resources and air time to the coverage of Tampa’s primary and run-off, especially the mayor’s race. Tampa’s roots are Hispanic. It’s naturally reflected in some of its candidates. Among them: City Council member Yvonne Yoli Capin. In Topeka or Trenton that might be “KAPPin.” But in Tampa, it’s “CaPEEN.” Cuidado.
