Ironically, the Cold War could conjure up some nostalgia these post-9/11 days. Recall that America and its co-super power adversary, the Soviet Union, had something critical in common back in the day. Neither of us wanted to die. That’s a deal-maker. Ultimately we could work with each other. Living in the here and now was a mutual priority–not dying for a martyr’s reward in the hereafter.
