It’s not even open yet and already there’s a big internet buzz about the new Dali Museum in St. Petersburg. AOL recently featured the “Ten Buildings To See Before You Die!” And right there, amid edifices from Athens and Bilbao to Liverpool and Tel Aviv, was the yet-to-debut Dali, still four months from its grand opening.
The AOL piece gave a major shout out to veteran architect Yann Weymouth of the Tampa-based HOK studio, who designed it. The description: “A huge, hurricane-proof monolith featuring a glass, slug-like element that appears to crawl through the building and around the facade, a metaphor for Dali’s signature juxtaposition of the classical and fantastical.”
