A key issue–and reality point of contention–between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders is free tuition for public colleges and universities that’s proposed by Sanders. It’s a galvanizing, rallying point for younger voters.
Tax hits to the rich can underwrite it, promises Sanders. To Clinton, there’s a fair amount of strategically idealistic b.s. from BS involved, but she would certainly work to bring costs down and look at underwriting community colleges.
Meanwhile, what of the private universities? Some get by with a history of academic achievement, prestigious alumni and door-opening promise. Others get by with cachet and snob appeal. What kind of PR response will we be seeing from these private colleges and universities–and why haven’t we seen it already?
