Now we know why Donald Trump doesn’t watch much pro football these days. It’s because, noted Trump, the NFL “has become soft like the country has become soft.” Exhibit A: all those penalties now being called for head-to-head contact.
It could be an apt metaphor were it not for the medical rationale. Such penalty calls are intended to cut down on head injuries and lessen the incidence of concussions, which can lead to brain damage. Other than that, how unconscionably soft.
It’s not as if the NFL doesn’t have off-putting aspects. It’s just that the most obvious one–all of the swaggering, trash-talking, braggadocious boors vying for camera time–would be an ironic parallel to the Trump campaign.
Speaking of The Decibel, how much longer does he get a GOP bye with his anti-political- correctness rant?
Political correctness is wishing Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. It’s substituting body entrepreneur for prostitute. It’s not challenging Black Lives Matter for its cherry-picking. It’s pulling our rhetorical punches to accommodate another’s agenda.
Donald Trump is not politically incorrect. He’s rude, arrogant, insultingly calculating–and his anti-PC shtick is a disingenuously brash campaign gambit. Would that he were merely politically incorrect.
