The state recently made a change in Florida Virtual School’s grading policy. Students will no longer have to pass a final exam to earn credit. Whatever the result, it will count as 20 percent of their grade. The new rule is already in effect and some districts, such as Pasco County, feel blindsided and undermined. Pasco has the second-largest, district-run FLVS franchise in the state.
Pasco superintendent Kurt Browning is definitely not pleased about the mixed message being sent. He pointed out that while the state wants students to do more in school, Florida Virtual is easing its requirements. “I’m pretty miffed about it,” said Browning.
Notice he didn’t say “virtually miffed.”
