A MacDill Air Force Base “gate crasher” is more than a newspaper “brief” item. But that’s how it was played in the local media. But it was a downright disturbing incident. And it’s happened before.
It’s more noteworthy and newsworthy, frankly, than accounts of those who pushed the lark envelope by parachuting off of the 104-story One World Trade Center. That was a bragging-rights, look-at-me stunt from an iconic, symbolic structure.
MacDill, however, is the nerve center of America’s military action in the Middle East. Its importance–and international symbolism–make for a tempting target for those who hate us–not mere “gate crashers.” And it’s in our midst.
