Sobering Anniversary Tandem

*Two anniversaries, both steeped in tragedy, were recently recalled by Americans.

The first is Newtown, where a year ago 26 people horrifically lost their lives to an unstable, inexplicably armed shooter. Inexplicable because his de facto accomplice-enabler was his gun-culture-enamored mother who was also, ironically, his initial victim.

The second anniversary is that of common sense initiatives–to salvage something positive out of the Sandy Hook Elementary mass murders–that ultimately went nowhere. Thanks, again, U.S. Congress for nothing–nothing but posturing and craven whoring out to the NRA, Second Amendment perversion and disingenuous Founding Father fodder. Imagine, we still–STILL– haven’t banned assault weapons.

*Speaking of Newtown, doesn’t it speak volumes when the “No Media: Police Take Note” signs recently dominated the town square in the center of Sandy Hook Village? There’s a difference between covering a tragic event and its emotional aftermath–and exploiting it with an obligatory anniversary revisitation because it’s a media staple.
