Congressman C.W. “Bill” Young, who recently announced his upcoming retirement, has served the Tampa Bay area with distinction. This region, most notably MacDill AFB, has done well by Rep. Young.
In his 42 years in Congress he become an avatar for “earmarks.” His uncanny success has been a reminder that there are “earmarks” and then there are pork-laced by-products. Young didn’t bring “bridges to nowhere.” He brought projects that legitimately benefited the area, most notably MacDill.
To his credit, Young could be a long-time, passionate advocate for national defense and the military–and still evolve to criticize the war in Afghanistan.
