Anyone NOT think RNC Chairman Reince Priebus–who is looking more and more like Forest Gump every day–was beyond unimpressive in his blustery finger-wagging at CNN and NBC for deigning to plan programs about Hillary Rodham Clinton in 2014?
Priebus convinced the RNC to approve a resolution last weekend to block both networks from hosting GOP presidential primary debates because they would not back off their Clinton commitments. CNN plans a documentary. NBC, a miniseries.
It was blatantly obvious that his thinly-veiled rant about candidate bias was rhetorical red meat for the base and a politically expeditious way to rationalize plans for fewer presidential debates. Republicans are well aware from 2012 that the more primary debates their candidates engaged in, the more they outted themselves as unelectable ideologues and opportunists to all but primary-voting activists. Moreover, the RNC wants dutiful acolytes, choir-preachers and true-believers–not moderators–to host their primary debates. They still haven’t forgotten–or forgiven– Candy Crawley.
