At The Zoo: People At Their Best

If you haven’t been to the Lowry Park Zoo in a while, find the time. As you know, it’s among our best attractions, not coincidental in its resemblance to the acclaimed San Diego Zoo. But unless you have little ones at home, it’s easily taken for granted.

Last week my wife and I celebrated the convergence of free time and chamber of commerce weather to get a long overdue zoo fix. Thank you, LPZ, and the many variations on an entertaining primate theme, the colorfully mesmerizing lorikeets, the intriguing rhinos (not RINOS!), and those ornately-shelled turtles. And can’t forget the loping verticality of giraffes and the eclectic likes of warthogs and zebras. And thank you, helpful interns. I can see what attracted you here from all parts of the country.

And thank you, friendly fellow visitors from all walks, races and generations. People at their comfort-zone best. There are few places you can go and know that you have something in common that is this special. The wonder of nature. The love of animals. The love of life’s diversity.

And did I mention that the primates are a captivating, sometimes eerie, hoot?
