The CAMLS’ Effect

When it comes to GOP Convention preparation, sprucing up certainly helps and illuminated bridges and an artsy Zack Street are decidedly cool. But for sheer show-and-tell impact, it’s likely that nothing will resonate with the right people quite like USF Health’s new downtown Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation. “World class” and “state of the art” never seemed so understated. Its high-tech, hybrid likes can’t be found anywhere else. Already, the American College of Cardiology has designated CAMLS as its first Center of Excellence in Education and Training.

CAMLS is 90,000 square feet of future-is-now credibility that will train health care professionals–from surgeons, nurses and medical students to biomedical engineers and medical-equipment reps–from around the world on the latest in simulation technology. Initially it’s expected to attract about 30,000 people a year, two-thirds of them from overseas.

Moreover, CAMLS is perfectly positioned to underscore that Tampa–and USF Health–have more than arrived as a health care and bio-medical hot spot. Dr. Stephen Klasko, CEO of USF Health and dean of the Morsani College of Medicine, is not exaggerating when he says the countdown to the debut of CAMLS has drawn the attention of CEOs nationwide. “We’re looked at now as the place where tomorrow’s health care is happening,” he says.

And a number of those CEOs will be in town the last week of August.
