The USF men’s basketball season came to a disappointing end on Sunday when the Bulls lost to Ohio University. While much has been written of the Bulls getting into the NCAA Tournament–and then beating California and Temple–much should also be made of the “disappointment.”
There can only be disappointment when there are expectations. For two decades the Bulls were largely expectation challenged. Hoping–or “expecting”–to be “competitive” or “respectable” are low-bar standards unbefitting NCAA Tournament aspirants.
Now there are “expectations.” The Bulls were even favored to be beat Ohio and move on to the “Sweet 16.” They are now good enough to win–and disappoint.
