The last fortnight has seen a couple of Tampa-centric national shout-outs, one involving First Lady Michelle Obama, the other, Ariana Huffington of the Huffington Post.
*The First Lady included USF’s medical school in a list of other med schools across the country who were doing more than their share to ensure care for veterans and their families. Mrs. Obama specifically noted USF’s plans for a first-of-its-kind Center for Veterans Reintegration.
*In a speech to the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Washington, Huffington underscored how cities–as opposed to Washington–were “the real idea factories of our country.” She singled out several mayors for innovative recognition: Newark’s Cory Booker, Portland’s Samuel Adams, Los Angeles’ Antonio Villaraigosa, New York City’s Michael Bloomberg, Chicago’s Rahm Emanuel and Tampa’s own Bob Buckhorn. Mayor Bob helps give a virtual guide to the city and its attractions on Foursquare, a location-based social networking website for mobile devices.
