The good news for USF–amid the chaos of Big East implosion and expansion–is that the University of Central Florida will be back on the Bulls’ football schedule. They last played in 2008, when the four-game series was halted by USF because UCF, a member of the non-BCS Conference USA, was a notch below them in status.
However it happened, and this one is awash in irony, this is what USF should have agreed to back in ’08. USF needs a rivalry game, one that is low in travel overhead, can energize a campus and will pack stadiums in Tampa and Orlando.
Too bad the catalyst was a crisis, but it’s good news that it happened.
