As a result, aren’t we reminded on a daily basis how much better off we would be had somebody–including the White House–actually been politically receptive to the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform co-chaired by former Sen. Alan Simpson (R-Wyo.) and former Clinton chief of staff Erskine Bowles? It actually took on all the big-dollar, third-rail issues that polarize and paralyze Washington.
