Anyone who lives in–or commutes through–South Tampa knows the scenario. When it rains a lot in a short period of time, problems will surely–and shortly–ensue. Especially on Bayshore Boulevard. Especially. It comes with the territory: low, flat land, drainage-skewing tides, under-sized storm water pipes and less-than-an-ideal number of pump stations.
In the short term, there’s only one manageable variable: common sense. Don’t use Bayshore when there’s a downpour. It can turn into a no-wake zone in minutes. There’s no destination that ultimately can’t be reached–but not forded–by an alternate route. Swann Avenue usually works.
When it rains, it pours. That’s nature. But to drive through it when the water’s around your wheel wells? That’s stupid.
