This much we know about Republican Hillsborough County Commissioner Mark Sharpe’s challenge to Democratic U.S. Representative Kathy
Castor:
*Sharpe’s candidacy — which eschews the GOP fringes — will be the most formidable one that Castor has faced since winning her 11th Congressional District seat in 2006.
*The early sound bites will be tough to top. To wit:
^Prominent GOP conservative Sam Rashid, who’s no fan of Sharpe: “I would rather he be in Congress as one of 435 than here on the County Commission as one of seven, because he can do significantly more damage here than he can up there.”
^Sharpe, in responding to a query about signing a no-new-taxes pledge: “I’ll sign the pledge that says I won’t be signing pledges.”
Game on.
