I’ll confess this is a pet peeve. Literally. But I know I have company.
If you have pets, you know where I’m going when it comes to “celebrating” certain holidays. Namely, New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July. Because fireworks are part of it. And loud noise is a natural component. In fact, a “bombs bursting in air” complement. When it’s done professionally and lights up the sky, it’s a collective aesthetic experience. Sometimes a high five and a fist bump are just not celebratory enough.
But I’m talking about free-lance fireworks–bottle rockets at odd hours and not confined to late on the eve of the new year or to July 4th. The annual sound track of the clueless and inconsiderate. Those who wouldn’t know Fort McHenry from Fort Lauderdale.
It’s not just unfair to neighbors, but much more importantly, it’s traumatic to many pets.
I suspect a number of parents are enablers. And wouldn’t appreciate retaliation.
Or maybe they would.
