A recent media analysis found that of those who lost their voting rights last year, 14 percent were registered Republicans. More than half (52 percent) were registered Democrats; 33 percent were NPA. That party breakdown surprises no one. Of course, “restored” is no predictor of “cast” in this state with more than 1 million former felons looking to regain their voting rights. And it’s still sobering to be reminded that nearly 2 out of every 5 registered voters stayed home despite last week’s critically important election that meant so much to Florida and America.
