It’s probably Hillary Clinton’s longest-running, presidential-candidate nightmare. No, not Benghazi or emails or even Wall Street amity. It’s that inevitably Bill Clinton would become an issue. And she would have to relive–a no-response strategy notwithstanding–the most humiliating period of her life.
As Ruth Marcus, the liberal Washington Post columnist, pointed out last week, Hillary Clinton was right to bring the popular Bill Clinton on the campaign trail and right to call out Donald Trump for being a “sexist.” But by doing so, she has made the former president’s past fair game.
I agree. And it’s not just the Monica Lewinsky affair. Bill Clinton had used his executive-position power to prey on women back in Arkansas. State troopers as lookouts. Hillary knew the price of political ascendency for a power couple. Some would call that enabling. Or worse.
It’s as bad as politics can get. And it will get worse.
