Good week for Hillary Clinton.
Kevin McCarthy, the likely House Speaker-in-waiting, gift-wrapped a political plum with his admission that undermining Clinton’s poll numbers was, indeed, a partisan agenda priority of the Benghazi congressional committee. Clinton consequently retook the moral high ground over Republicans crassly using the deaths of Americans for political advantage. It also took her email server out of the news loop.
And for a bonus, she fared well on Saturday Night Live, which can be a double-edged sword for a candidate trying to reach a demographic without being trivialized by pop culture (and guest host Miley Cyrus). She played off of Kate McKinnon, who regularly plays Clinton, as “Val” the bartender. She served up drinks and straight lines to McKinnon’s Clinton. Self-deprecating humor over the timing of her Keystone Pipeline and gay marriage stands worked. McKinnon and Clinton wrapped up the skit with a rendition of “Lean on Me.”
