According to Forbes magazine, no one–to nobody’s surprise–is close to Donald Trump ($4.5 billion) in net worth. Carly Fiorina is runner-up at $58 million. The next four: Hillary Clinton ($45 million), Lincoln Chafee ($32 million), Dr. Ben Carson ($26 million) and Jeb Bush ($22 million). The only real disparities–other than distinguishing a billionaire from a bunch of millionaires–are Bernie Sanders ($700,000), Marco Rubio ($100,000) and Martin O’Malley (zero). The disclaimer for Rubio: “Florida senator has house, boat, kids’ college plans and lots of debt.” For O’Malley: “Former Maryland governor took on debt to send kids to college.”
Not being a billionaire or millionaire can underscore a candidate’s populist bona fides. But zero?
