Marco Rubio made clear that a “generational choice” strategy would be employed should he get the Republican nomination for president–and should the opposition be, as assumed, Hillary Clinton. (It also has primary applications, to be sure, against his former mentor.) “Yesterday”–as in, a “leader from yesterday”–was thematic in his Gen X, presidential proclamation.
The approach wasn’t unexpected because presidential elections are always about the future. Recall that five of the last six were won by the younger candidate.
