When the Secret Service is in the news, it’s not good. They’re supposed to be like umpires and referees. If you don’t notice them, it’s because everything is going the way it’s supposed to go. No prostitute solicitation, no un-vetted elevator company for the president, no White House breaches, etc.
So, look who’s back in the news.
* “It’s now official that four senior Secret Service officials have “departed.” We know, as noted in part above, why.
* We’ve recently found out that it’s standard procedure for presidential motorcades to include volunteer drivers with no special training. They are links in the fastest, most high-profile vehicle chains in the country; they typically carry White House staffers and media; and they come cheaper than Secret Service personnel or local police. But, yes, they do get briefed about emergencies, such as attacks.
* Over the weekend, several gunshots were fired by a vehicle speeding by the Greenville, Del. home of Vice President Joe Biden. The vice president and his wife were in town but not home. Local police and Secret Service agents gave chase but were unable to catch the vehicle.
Other than that, business as usual.
