None of us–from here to Ferguson, Mo.–truly knows what happened that day between 18-year-old, unarmed Michael Brown and Officer Darren Wilson.
But this much seems certain:
* Missouri law sets a notably high prosecution bar when it comes to self defense and justifiable use of force by a police officer.
* There were grand jury-perplexing, contradictory accounts of the Brown-Wilson encounter and struggle.
* It remains inexplicable that Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon didn’t replace county prosecutor Robert P. McCulloch with a special prosecutor. McCulloch’s ties with law enforcement run deep, including being the son of a police officer killed in the line of duty.
* A civil case is inevitable.
