Legal Rights–And Wrongs

According to a Pasco Sheriff’s Office report, there’s now doubt that Chad Oulson, the man who was shot dead in that Wesley Chapel movie theater in January, had been texting his daughter prior to being killed. (Reportedly, it was Oulson’s texting that had irritated defendant Curtis Reeves, who is facing charges of second-degree murder.)

Surely, I’m not the only person who thinks this:

So Oulson may not have been texting about his 2-year-old daughter. So what? A guy brings his loaded .380 semi automatic to the MOVIES. The MOVIES! There’s your problem. It’s societal. It’s cultural. It’s crazy. But it’s legal–if you’re among the 1.1 million Floridians who  have a license to conceal and carry. And if you do, why the hell wouldn’t you exercise it? Why chance being unarmed at the Cobb Grove 16 theater?

It’s beyond problematic when packing a concealed weapon for self-defense is seen not as a failure of civil society, to be lamented, but as an act of citizenship to be celebrated.
