Apparently the Obama Administration cabinet shuffle will involve Julian Castro. The San Antonio mayor, 39, would be nominated to replace Shaun Donovan at Housing and Urban Development. Donovan would leave HUD to become director of the Office of Management and Budget.
The elevation of Castro, long expected, means an even higher profile for one of the Democratic Party’s rising Hispanic stars. He gave the keynote address at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. As a result, many political observers project Castro as a vice presidential candidate in 2016.
Among those surely noting such a potential scenario–and consequently calculating the implications of a charismatic Hispanic who believes in science: a certain Cuban-American senator from Miami.
