A couple of months ago the District 13 special election in Pinellas County was considered a swing district toss-up. Republican David Jolly edged Democrat Alex Sink by less than 2 percent.
This time around, purple district notwithstanding, it may not even be competitive for the nominally incumbent Jolly. After running off lawyer Jessica Ehrlich and prominent African-American minister Manuel Sykes, the Democrats found themselves stuck with Democrat-leaning independent candidate Ed Jany, who recently made news with a reported “diploma mill” degree on his resume. He has since dropped out, citing an employment conflict.
This gives heavy-handed incompetence a bad name.
Too bad nobody made a serious effort to induce Pinellas County Commissioner Ken Welch to oppose Jolly.
