Targeting A Nominee

It appears that President Barack Obama’s nominee for attorney general, Dr. Vivek Murthy, may not pass muster with the Senate. Yes, the Democrat-majority Senate. But, no, it’s not a problem with the credentials of the internist with MD and MBA degrees from Yale who co-founded Visions Worldwide, an international non-profit aimed at HIV prevention.

It’s his politics.

Dr. Murthy, a 1994 graduate of Miami’s Palmetto High School, supports stricter gun control laws. And he’s considered a very effective advocate for that position. As a result, he’s come under intense scrutiny and criticism from the National Rifle Association–such that it’s becoming a major re-election issue for Democrats from conservative states. And there’s enough of them, 10, to matter.

Here’s a recent tweet of Dr. Murthy’s: “Tired of politicians playing politics w/guns b/c they’re scared of NRA. Guns are a health care issue.” It didn’t play well, of course, with the usual suspects.

The White House reportedly is now considering delaying the SG vote or withdrawing it altogether. How sobering. Why wouldn’t you want a doctor in favor of stricter gun laws?
