As it turned out, Trevor Dooley was found guilty of manslaughter with a weapon. This much was self evident: There are some places where you don’t bring a gun even if you have a license to carry one. Taking a gun to a playground because of an issue with a 12-year-old skateboarder would seem to qualify. A man, indeed, died over “nothing.” It was needless and tragic. However, Dooley did, ironically, uphold a law–the law of unintended consequences.
