Gathering Momentum Downtown

To parochially paraphrase Gertrude Stein: “To be sure, there’s there there in Tampa now.” Namely, the riverfront Curtis Hixon Park. It literally opens up the gem that is the Hillsborough River waterfront to everyone, but it also creates a focal point in downtown for those who gather–whether in the name of a concert, a festival, an art show, a generic family frolic or a State of the City presentation. It’s become a magnet for–and a symbol of–downtown rejuvenation.

The most recent affirmations of the new Tampa reality: the inaugural Gasparilla Music Festival and the first-ever St. Patrick’s Day Festival. The former featured diverse bands, well-received vendors and some 6,000 appreciative attendees. The latter featured music, food, a green river and thousands of hard-core and honorary Irish making sure that Tampa can, indeed, shamRock with the best.

Thanks again, Mayor Pam–and nice added O’touch, Mayor Bob.
