Once again bowl season is upon us, and once again we’re reminded what diminished products they’ve become. There are now 34 bowls–plus the national championship game between LSU and Alabama. Of the 34, 10–nearly 30 percent–have one or more teams without a winning record. At least Tampa’s own Outback Bowl, featuring Georgia (10-3) and Michigan (10-3) is not one of the shams. Moreover, it even sounds like a real bowl game–as opposed to, say, the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl, the Meineke Car Care Bowl, the GoDaddy.com Bowl or, sorry St. Pete, the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl.
At least there’s no 1-800-Ask Gary Bowl.
Yet.
