For all those who foresee Sen. Marco Rubio being a big-ticket player at next summer’s GOP convention, nothing of late has caused them to change their minds. He’s still the darling of Tea Party rabble and could give ideological, ethnic, generational and swing-state balance to a Mitt Romney ticket.
Rubio is also ratcheting up his calculating ways. He just converted his senate assignment on the Foreign Relations Committee into a photo op in Libya. He’s also announced plans to write his autobiography before accomplishing anything else. Three things are certain about the book-to-be. It will be an idealized version of the American dream. It will gloss over his GOP-issued credit card. It will be published before the convention.
