What is it with the TSA and common sense? Are they governmentally mandated to remain an oxymoronic pairing? Recall the recent travesty of pat downs of a baby and a 6-year-old.
Now a new low. The latest outrage: the 95-year-old, adult diaper-wearing woman with cancer who had to remove her Depends–and divest herself of dignity–to satisfy security concerns at the Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. Nigerian underwear bombers with a Yemen passport stamp have been treated with more respect. The woman, who was making a farewell visit to relatives in Michigan, was eventually allowed to board a flight–but with no back-up diaper.
The official TSA response to complaints was hardly apologetic. “While every person and item must be screened before entering the secure boarding area, TSA works with passengers to resolve security alarms in a respectful and sensitive manner,” it stated. “We have reviewed the circumstances involving this screening and determined that our officers acted professionally and according to proper procedure.”
Imagine if they hadn’t.
