There’s a lot not to like regarding the tenure of former Hillsborough County attorney Renee Lee. Awful judgment comes readily to mind. And that less than minor matter of state investigators weighing in with charges that she was truth-challenged on that email-snooping caper.
But the final ouster scene devolved a bit more before she got her negotiated pink slip. Tampa lawyer Delano Stewart actually had the temerity to play the race card in her behalf. “Her record is impeccable. … This black community is outraged by your treatment of Miss Lee,” he told the County Commission.
Here’s hoping that was a regrettable rhetorical flourish and Stewart, in fact, was pretty much speaking for Stewart. That’s because, if anything, Miss Lee’s record had become increasingly peccable, if you will.
And if the black community truly wants to express its outrage, it should consider Dontae Morris, the no-snitch ethic and maybe the child-rearing practices of Swazikki Davis for starters.
