*In the aftermath of the Arizona shooting that killed six and seriously wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, this front page headline in Monday’s St. Petersburg Times: “Leaders Call For Less Vitriol.” Good, but too bad it wasn’t: “Leaders Call For No Vitriol.”
*And while we’re referencing the Times, a shout-out for Sunday’s coverage of the new Dali Museum that included a Floridian full-page, photos-and-copy layout of those who did a lot of the heavy, specialized lifting. From pouring the 18-inch, steel-reinforced walls to the pouring of the signature spiral staircase.
Turns out most of those who did the pouring grew up together. They’re from the Mexican town of Actopan, famous for its colonial architecture. For the workers, the Dali project was a once-in-a-life time opportunity. Moreover, their specialized skills are a reminder of those non-Americans among us making contributions across the economic–and even aesthetic–spectrum.
