*CNN’s “State of the Union” and CBS’ “Face The Nation” each looked at Florida senatorial candidates on Sunday. Now look for Republican Marco Rubio, Democrat Kendrick Meek and independent Charlie Crist to be offered regular face time on network and cable shows from now to Nov. 2–even if the governor passes on some opportunities. Florida’s three-way race isn’t just nationally significant, it’s a made-for-TV dynamic right out of central casting. Attractive, well-spoken, diverse candidates: A Cuban-American, an African-American and a Hybrid-American.
*Sound-bitten: After losing that obscenely-bankrolled, embittering gubernatorial primary to Rick Scott, Bill McCollum couldn’t bring himself to offer more than a pro forma congratulation to Scott. Moreover, two days later, McCollum still sounded like he was on the campaign trail exchanging verbal assaults. “I still have serious questions … about issues of his character, his integrity, his honesty,” assailed McCollum. “Things that go back to Columbia/HCA…”
Needless to say, that skewering sound bite will show up again during the Scott-Sink campaign. Count on it.
*Speaking of the Rick Scott campaign, should be intriguing to watch the Kabuki political theatre that will masquerade as GOPster unity. Florida Republican chairman John Thrasher already has met with Scott and promptly issued a kumbaya decree, stating that the past–as in rancorous opposition–was buried and it was time to–all together now–“move forward.” Moreover, it was a “great, positive meeting.”
In other words: “This guy’s a bum, but now he’s our bum.”
